| RestorationRoscigno Vecchia is considered a 20th century Pompei. Time seems to have stood still. In the early 900's the town was abandoned by its habitants due to a landslide which threatened to cast the town into the valley below. Left empty it establishes itself today as an exceptional historical document, relative to a not so distant past, but one so different. It can be seen in the large irregular shaped square of "Giovanni Nicotera" with its 7th century old church and its fountain, in its houses arranged in a semi-circle around the church, in its shops, graneries, stables and troughs and its narrow broken streets. |

Too many houses in RV have been gutted and stabilized but have lost their original character. Pro Loco intends on stabilizing it and keep it in its original state. let's hope that the authorities allow this project. Aug 30, 2008
